In This Group You Can Expect:

This course is designed specifically for neurodivergent couples—whether one or both partners are autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, or otherwise neurodivergent. Each session blends education, practical tools, and guided reflection to help partners understand their differences, reduce conflict, and strengthen emotional connection in ways that honor each person’s neurotype.

Through a neuro-affirming lens, Bev Hutchinson, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP, CSP-ADHD) and Gottman Level 2 trained therapist, guides the attendees through some of the foundational skills of being in a healthy relationship. The workshop sessions will focus on subjects including listening, communication, how to repair and how different neurotypes impact the relationship. The sessions will be a blend of presentations and group facilitations. We hope you can join us!

About Bev Hutchinson:

Bev Hutchinson is a Registered Psychotherapist and neuro-affirming relationship counsellor with a deep passion for helping couples not just survive — but genuinely thrive together. With advanced training in neurodiversity, Bev brings a rare combination of clinical expertise and lived understanding to her work with couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and refreshingly human — she weaves in humour, empathy, and straight-talk to help couples identify what's actually getting in the way, and build relationship skills that actually fit how their brains work. Whether you're navigating communication breakdowns, emotional distance, or the unique dynamics that come with neurodivergence in a relationship, Bev meets you exactly where you are and helps you find your way forward — together.

Session One: Neurotype Differences That Impact a Relationship

This foundational session explores how different neurotypes perceive, process, and respond to the world. Couples learn how sensory needs, communication styles, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and social expectations can differ—and how these differences can create both challenges and strengths. The goal is to replace confusion with clarity and build compassion for each partner’s lived experience.

Session Two: Communication and Listening

Partners learn communication strategies that work with their neurotype rather than against it. This session covers direct vs. indirect communication, processing time, literal vs. inferred meaning, and how to express needs clearly. Couples practice listening skills that reduce misunderstandings and create a sense of being heard and valued.

Session Three: The Four Horsemen—Barriers to Healthy Communication

Using the “Four Horsemen” framework (criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling), this session helps couples identify patterns that escalate conflict or shut down connection. Participants learn how these behaviors show up uniquely in neurodivergent relationships and how to replace them with healthier alternatives.

Session Four: How to Properly Repair

Every couple experiences conflict—what matters is how they repair. This session teaches step‑by‑step repair strategies tailored for neurodivergent communication styles. Couples learn how to revisit difficult moments, take accountability without shame, and rebuild trust through clear, structured repair attempts.

Session Five: Relaxation and Co‑Regulating

Partners explore tools for calming the nervous system—individually and together. This includes sensory‑based regulation, predictable routines, grounding techniques, and ways to support each other during overwhelm or shutdown. The focus is on creating a relationship environment where both partners feel safe and soothed.

Session Six: Rituals of Connection

The final session helps couples design small, meaningful rituals that strengthen their bond. These rituals—tailored to each couple’s neurotype, energy levels, and sensory preferences—create predictability, warmth, and shared joy. Partners leave with a personalized set of daily, weekly, and seasonal connection habits.
